Mazda or Toyota?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
OR
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I think I’d go 929, as it’s the odder of the two.

LET ME THINK ABOUT IT FOR A FEW SECONDS PLEASE

No rush, it is an interesting dilemma.

I’m with SpaceCrab.
Toyota.

I like both, but the 929 is an oddity. I like oddities.

929 of course because manual... Who would own a Supra with an automatic??

Oh crap. I didn’t even notice that...

Exactly. There’s something extremely attractive about the interior too.

This is a toughie. On one hand, the Mazda only has a piddly 2L inline 4 in there. Moreover, parts availability would be a nightmare. It does have the manual transmission, and is more of a unique car.
The Supra on the other hand is an automatic MKIII, with it’s weird ass suspension, and 7m under the hood. But it is the larger engine, probably is faster, and you can still find parts for it.
Any way to get a rotary into the 929?

Yep. In Cosmo trim they came with 12A-turbo or 13B rotaries.

The question has layers.

Easy. I’ll take the 929 because of its low mileage, manual transmission and because it’s registered as a historic vehicle which means lower taxes.

If I were to say, “dat 929 tho,” would you allow my vote?

Supra downside is the drivetrain + heavy. I’ve dealt with the 7M engine enough times to say it’s not worth the effort of trying to keep it alive.
That Mazda needs a better drivetrain, otherwise it looks like it would be the better buy anyway, even just as a unique car. Gets my vote. Even a Miata BP swap would make it better, 13B would be laughs.

I want to say the Mazda, but I just can't. I'll take the Supra. At least I can get parts for that one.

I'd take the 929 as a Cosmo for sure!

Can always manual swap :)

Nah, much cheaper to just buy a manual right away...

929 came in a coupe? Wow, I don’t remember this car. Was that available in USDM?
Hands down would take the 929 for its intense 80s-ness. Not sure about Europe, but I’d be really worried about parts for such an oddball. Also, power.
With unlimited time and money, I would restomod something like this, I wonder if an NC Miata engine would be compatible? Or better, one of the performance-oriented Honda or Toyota engines. Oh shoot, I just read that it’s RWD. When you have an S2000 everything’s a nail, but F20C SWAP YO!

From what I can find it was never imported to the US. Parts could be tricky, as I’m US based too. I’d do a 13B swap, as the Cosmo trim had one, Mazdas should have rotaries. An NC Miata motor would probably be way more reliable though.

Yeah, rotary plus (relatively) ancient obscure car is problems^2, hence the more modern, reciprocating engine choice.
I looked for an HB forum, and there is one, but everything fit on one page XD so, not much in the way of success/failure stories of other swaps. Seems like this car is sadly destined to slip away into history.
